In 1885 a group of progressive young artists set up camp along Gardiners Creek, Box Hill to paint outdoors en plein air. In doing so they captured the distinctive light and character of the bush, and forged an iconic movement now known as Australian Impressionism.

This first display in our new 'Collection Spotlight' series features a concise selection of works from the Whitehorse Art Collection by two of the main proponents of the camp, Tom Roberts (1856 – 1931) and Frederick McCubbin (1855 – 1917). Stay tuned for more spotlight displays of treasures from the Whitehorse Art Collection.
