Established artist Mark Dober presents wall-sized gouache and watercolour paintings on paper that document various sites in southeast Australia, with the immediacy and directness of mark-making that characterise his style. Inland waterways are a theme, including the Murray and Murrumbidgee rivers, Winton Wetlands, and Gardiners Creek in Box Hill South. The exhibition also features work made in a recent residency in the forests of the Wollemi, New South Wales.
The artist has made these works flat on the ground while immersed in the environment. The near and the far, varied light and weather, and multi-directional looking record the artist’s experience of the landscape and inform his painterly expression.
