In the heart of Blackburn, where the rustling leaves meet the soothing ripples of Blackburn Lake, an intimate musical experience awaits. Jazz at the Lake, is back on Sunday 1 March, from 3.30pm – 7.30pm. Enjoy smooth jazz, delicious food, and a picturesque setting for a perfect family-friendly outing.  

Following the success of our 2025 partnership, we're once again teaming up with Community Music and Performances Inc. This year's line-up features Bob Sedergreen and Friends, Arandú, Pipes, and The Shuffle Club, with MC Pat Panetta keeping the day flowing between sets. From Latin jazz and New Orleans classics to swing, blues and boogie, the program offers a mix of styles suited to both devoted jazz listeners and those simply looking to enjoy live music in the park.

From Latin jazz grooves to New Orleans classics, plus a true Australian jazz legend on piano, this year’s program brings together accomplished performers and feel-good energy for all ages.

Bob Sedergreen and Friends
Award-winning jazz pianist Bob Sedergreen has been at the pinnacle of Australian jazz for decades, performing with many great international artists and influencing a multitude of jazz musicians.

Joining Bob on stage will be several of his musical friends, outstanding performers who rank among Australia’s top jazz artists.

Arandú
Arandú is a vibrant Latin jazz ensemble, interweaving hints of soul and funk. With an infectious blend of rhythm and melody, they fuse traditional Latin grooves with jazz and contemporary influences to deliver a dynamic musical performance.

Pipes

The Shuffle Club
The Shuffle Club bring two decades of global performances, mixing jazz, swing, blues and boogie into irresistible vintage-style energy, while staying true to their St Kilda roots.

MC: Pat Panetta
Our MC for the day is Pat Panetta, the official ‘out & about’ person for Radio 3AW. With microphone in hand, he has reported from every major event in Melbourne and will keep the day flowing between sets.

Getting There

Jazz at the Lake is being held at Blackburn Lake Sanctuary.

Blackburn Lake Sanctuary is well-connected by public transport, offering a few options for patrons travelling to the event.

  • Bus: Gwenda Ave/Central Road on the 736 route is the closest bus station, only a short walk from the bus stop to the event site.
  • Train: The closest train station is Blackburn Station, on the Belgrave and Lilydale line. Which is approximately 1.3km or a 20-minute walk from the event site. From there you can alternatively take a taxi, ride-sharing service or catch a connecting bus. 

We advise to check for changes to schedules, routes or disruptions of services before taking public transport.

Limited parking is available. We recommend walking, riding your bike, carpooling, or public transport where possible.

Accessibility and Event Inclusions:

There are a number of event inclusions and accessibility features to help support the community.

  • Accessible Viewing Area: Designated accessible viewing area with easy access from the footpath.
  • Accessible Toilets: Available at the Visitor Centre.
  • Unisex Toilets: Available at the Visitor Centre.
  • Baby Change Table: Located in the Unisex toilet.
  • Accessible Parking: Located on Central Road.

FAQs

Is this a free event?
Yes. Jazz at the Lake is a free community event. No bookings or tickets are required.

Do I need to book?
No bookings are needed. Just turn up and enjoy the music.

What should I bring?
A picnic rug or chairs, a reusable water bottle, sun protection and warm layers for later in the evening. 

Will there be food and drinks available?
A small selection of food vendors will be onsite. You are also welcome to bring your own picnic.

Is the event accessible?
Yes. The event site is accessible, with accessible toilets available. More details can be found in the accessibility tab of this webpage. 

Can I bring my dog?
Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a leash at all times. Please ensure your dog is comfortable around crowds and loud music.

What happens if it rains or if it is very hot?
The event will go ahead in most weather conditions. Please dress appropriately for the forecast.
If conditions become unsafe and the event needs to be cancelled, updates will be posted on the Creative Whitehorse and Whitehorse City Council social media pages.

Can I bring chairs?
Low chairs and rugs are able to sit anywhere. Higher camping chairs are allowed but must be set up in the designated rear lawn area.

Will there be seating provided?
No, this is a lawn based event. All seating must be brought with you. 

Is this a family-friendly event?
Yes. Jazz at the Lake is suitable for all ages.

How do I get there and where can I park?
Limited parking is available at Blackburn Lake Sanctuary. Information about public transport, parking and getting to the event can be found in the Getting There tab on this page.

Are shade tents or marquees allowed?
No. Please bring a hat and sun protection. 

Is there tap water on site?
Yes, there are multiple water refill points available. Please bring a reusable water bottle.

Is there a lost children or lost property point?
Yes. Any lost property or children will be brought to the Information Tent for safe keeping. 

Are drones allowed?
No. Drones are not permitted for safety reasons. 

Can I bring glass bottles or containers?
No. The event is glass free for safety reasons. All BYO beverages must be in non-breakable containers. 

Can I smoke or vape at the event?
No. Whitehorse Events are smoke and vape free for the safety and comfort of all attendees. 

Will there be photographers and videographers at the event?
Yes. Council will be capturing photos and footage for promotional use. If you prefer not to be photographed, please let our staff know during the event.

What happens if there is a Total Fire Ban (TFB)?
If a Total Fire Ban is declared, Jazz at the Lake cannot proceed at the scheduled site due to Council’s bushland safety requirements. In the event of a TFB, the event will be relocated to Halliday Park, Mitcham.
